We arrive at Mateo's office in a cab—he still won’t use his own car and driver. The downtown building is sleek and modern. As we step inside, I'm struck by how everything is sharp lines, polished surfaces, and a sense of purposeful activity.

Mateo's assistant, a poised woman with an air of efficiency, meets us in the lobby. She doesn't bat an eye at our arrival, which in itself tells a story. She's used to Mateo's unpredictable lifestyle, it seems. Without a word, she hands me a selection of clothes. Her demeanor tells me that asking questions isn't part of her job description.

I quickly choose a simple sundress that reflects my preference for modest, practical attire. It's comfortable yet appropriate, a small piece of normalcy on an otherwise extraordinary day.

Mateo leads me to his office, a spacious room with a large desk and a panoramic view of the city. The walls are adorned with awards and recognitions, each a testament to his achievements and his journey to get here.

As Mateo gets absorbed in his work, I wander around his office, taking in the surroundings. The room is filled with things that tell his story—awards, articles, and mementos. Each item seems to have its own tale, highlighting Mateo's intelligence and drive. Clearly, the man I met at the gala is more than just protective; he's a complex person with a rich past.

My attention is eventually drawn to a small, framed photograph on a shelf. It's an old picture showing a younger Mateo with a group of people, likely from his old neighborhood. The contrast between the young man in the photograph and the accomplished businessman before me is striking. It's a window into his past, a reminder of his humble beginnings.

I find myself lost in thought, contemplating the journey he must have taken to reach this point. The strength and resilience needed to rise from such a background to his current stature is astounding. It's a testament to his character, to the struggles and challenges he's overcome.

As I look around the office, I can't help but feel a sense of loneliness that seems to permeate the space. I wonder about the personal sacrifices Mateo has had to make along his path to success. While impressive, the room lacks the warmth of personal connections, suggesting a life predominantly focused on work.

My heart aches a little at this realization. Even with all his success, it must be hard not having someone to share it all with. I find myself wanting to know him better, to be there for him in a way he might not have had before.

The hours pass, and I occupy myself by checking my own emails and scrolling mindlessly through social media. Mateo stays busy, but even as he's engrossed in his work, I notice his eyes drifting toward me. It's as if he can't help himself, and I’m beginning to realize that maybe I’m affecting him as profoundly as he affects me.

Finally, I hear the conclusion of his latest phone call.
